Behaviour for Learning

Behaviour, Wellbeing and Relationships

At WPA, we place strong, positive relationships at the heart of our school community. These relationships foster mutual respect and create the foundations for calm, purposeful classrooms where good behaviour can flourish. Everything we do is grounded in our Cirrus Values: ambition, honesty, inclusion, respect and resilience.

A key part of supporting children’s wellbeing is helping them understand themselves and others. Through the Zones of Regulation, children learn to identify and manage their emotions, building emotional intelligence essential for learning with confidence, resilience and ambition.

Our approach is deeply informed by our latest theory-based thinking around mattering—the belief that every child feels noticed, valued, and important. Research shows that when children feel they matter, they experience greater wellbeing, motivation and academic success. At WPA, we ensure children know they have a meaningful place within our community, and that their actions, ideas and emotions genuinely count.

Developing strong behaviours for learning is essential to academic progress. We help children recognise their strengths and identify areas for growth, encouraging them to see learning as an ongoing journey. Our Super Learner characters support this by teaching skills such as listening, questioning, perseverance and resilience.

Every classroom includes a Pause for Thought station—safe spaces where children can reflect, regulate their emotions and express their thoughts and feelings in a healthy and appropriate way.

Our aim is to nurture the next generation of responsible, caring and ambitious young people. To achieve this, children need opportunities to strengthen their decision-making, communication and social skills. Our behaviour curriculum provides this, ensuring they understand and practise  pro social behaviours that build strong relationships, a genuine sense of belonging and a secure sense of self.

At WPA, we believe that when children feel they matter, they thrive—and when they thrive, they achieve their very best.
